I'm a bit late with this rec but after a late evening emergency visit to the emergency room, I'm feeling rather stretched thin so please forgive me...
Title: The Elrond/Legolas Chronicles
Fandom: Lord of the Rings (Books)
Pairing: Elrond/Legolas
Categories: Romance, Angst, Drama
Length: Super Epic
Warnings: More elves than you can shake a stick at?
Author on LJ: n/a
Website: Helmboy
Author's Summary: Legolas is fostered as a youngster to the court at Rivendell, much against the wishes of his parents and in keeping with the 'guidance' of Celeborn and Galadriel, two who hope to end the bickering by creating a bond. All that follows is not gold.
Review:
When it comes to slash-oriented pairings in the Lord of the Rings fandom there's no denying that the majority of it is Aragorn/Legolas based (which is not so surprising, especially after the movies came out), but even so The Elrond/Legolas Chronicles is proof that even if it isn't "mainstream" it can be wonderfully rewarding.
Unlike many of the stories in the fandom, ELC features a 'young' Legolas, one who is still struggling to learn his place in the world and who he truly is beyond being the Prince of Mirkwood. He's not immediately the polished warrior or worldly elf (he's rather sheltered, in fact) and has a certain naivety that is refreshing in a character that is usually written to be knowledgeable beyond our own human years.
Elrond is likewise written in a way that most readers don't tend to think of him as: a father, a widower, a leader, a friend, and, most importantly, a lover. While ususally considered 'serious', the author does a wonderful job of allowing Elrond to be something more than Arwen's Father (c'mon, don't tell me that's not how you think of him) and allows his character to become 'young' again with Legolas at his side.
As the summary says, everything in this series isn't gold, but I definitely recommend this for those of you who want to explore new pairings or just want to read a young-and-bratty Legolas (he changes for the better as the story goes on!).
