RR -- Holiday!Fic

  • Nov. 20th, 2007 at 10:22 AM

I'm feeling kind of down today, maybe because of the holidays.  On the other hand, holiday!fic usually makes me happy.  Put the two together and you have a Reader's Rec.  I'm especially looking for holiday!fic that's going to brighten my day -- other than that, I'm not picky (i.e., this might be a good time to hit me up with a new fandom).

Things to keep in mind:
-Recced stories can be any length, any fandom, and any pairing, as long as they fit the theme
-You don't need to write a review (unless you want to).  All that you need to include are title, author, and link to the story (all parts if there are more than one).

That said, have at it!

Today's Topic: Holiday!fic

Previous Topics:

-Marriage of Convenience

-Crime Procedurals (anyone posting Bones (Boothe/Bones) or Monk (Stottlemeyer/Disher) fic gets a rec in any fandom of their choice, even if I have to acquaint myself with the fandom first)
-Due South fic (F/V would be a bonus, as I haven't read any before)

The Sentinel
-Highlander
-Smallville

I know you're not big on genfic, but I'm going to rec this one, because it cracks me up... (and don't mind that it's, y'know, the evil place (ffnet) because i had it on her lj, and now the entry is protected, and for some reason, it's not up on her website, so I went back there as a last resort... Christmas in the Holly Free Zone (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3281591/1/Christmas_in_the_Holly_Free_Zone). It's good! By Sholio/ [livejournal.com profile] friendshipper I'm off to reread it right now. Because holiday fic sounds good.

Thanks for the rec! Hopefully I'll have a chance to get to it before the holidays are over (why do days suddenly seem half as long as they used to be?!)

HP - Gen Fic - Christmas
Title: Amor Vitae (http://community.livejournal.com/hp_holidaygen/34543.html)
Characters: Flitwick, McGonagall, Snape, Moody, Lupin
Categories: Gen, Action, Christmas
Rating: PG-13
Length: ~5,400
Summary: Some people wonder why Filius Flitwick is always so cheerful at Christmas.
Why you chose this: Obviously, this is not epic in length. Instead, it is epic in scope and impact. This is the story of Filius Flitwick from his childhood until we “meet” him in PS. The story has laughter, love, the original Order of the Phoenix, a harrowing battle scene, and hope. I am only one of many who are singing the praises of this little gem so I hope you can give it a read.

Title: Yuletide Days (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4690890/1/Yuletide_Days)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] hondagirll
Characters: Molly/Arthur, their children, in-laws and grandchildren according to JKR plus Andromeda Tonks and Teddy Lupin
Categories: Gen, Family life, Christmas
Rating: PG
Length: 25 ficlets; ~23,000
Summary: December 2015. Ficlet format. As Christmas draws near the Weasley and Potter children experience laughter, joy, tears, pranks, love, heartbreak and, of course, plenty of family rivalry.
Why you chose this: Once upon a time, we all read and enjoyed a book about kids. For most people, it is relaxing and a refreshing change from RL. Honda writes about the next gen children with insight and great charm. Every one of these made me smile for one thing or another. Several brought back memories of my own muggle childhood. Won’t you give it a try?

A Doctor Who Christmas Fanfic
Title: The Gift of the Mad Guy (http://sam-storyteller.livejournal.com/149906.html#cutid1)
Author: Sam Vimes [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge [livejournal.com profile] sam_storyteller
Characters: the Dr with some people he meets along the way
Categories: Gen, Crack, Christmas
Rating: PG
Length: ~10,000
Summary: The Doctor joins some Kings of Orient following a star, helps a quartet of sociologists, gets thrown in prison, meets shepherds (ditto: talking sheep), finds a baby in a stable, uses Christmas carols for nefarious ends, and learns The True Meaning Of Camel..
Why you chose this: A cracktastic Christmas classic!
