RR -- Smallville

  • Nov. 2nd, 2007 at 12:56 PM

Time to close the book on Smallville.  Literally, I'm afraid, unless someone has some new fic to reccommend, as I'm pretty much tapped.  Which, of course, means it's time for Readers' Recs!

Things to keep in mind:
-Recced stories can be any length, any fandom, and any pairing, as long as they fit the theme
-You don't need to write a review (unless you want to).  All that you need to include are title, author, and link to the story (all parts if there are more than one).

That said, have at it!

Today's Topic: Smallville

Previous Topics:
Genres:
-Marriage of Convenience
-Harleqin AUs
-Homeless!fic
-Humor
-Fluff
-Crack!fic

Fandoms:
-
Long Due South AUs
-Crime Procedurals (anyone posting Bones (Boothe/Bones) or Monk (Stottlemeyer/Disher) fic gets a rec in any fandom of their choice, even if I have to acquaint myself with the fandom first)
-Due South fic (F/V would be a bonus, as I haven't read any before)
-
The Sentinel
-Highlander

Pairings:
-Epic McShep

WolfBreed (http://improper.goneamiss.org/wolfbreed.html) by Hergerbabe
NC17;  Clark/Lex; Bloodplay, Violence, Adult Themes
Strong supernatural theme. Werewolves, vampires, aliens. While it doesn't quite measure up to the new "SuperGlue", (recently recced here,) this is one of the best novel-length Clex fics that I've read. Slashy goodness, happy ending, mating, angst, drama. Just the right amount of everything, not to fluffy, not to dark. I'm not going to give you a detailed summary 'cause I don't want to ruin it. So go read it!

Sounds awesome! Unfortunately, I can't seem to access the site. Is there another place where I can get the fic?

Hmmm, I just checked and the link seems to be working just fine. As far as I know, this is the only place it's at. Try again, and if you still can't get it to work, I'll paste it into a .doc file and send it to you. Just to make sure, here's the URL: http://improper.goneamiss.org/wolfbreed.html

Now it worked. Maybe my compter was having a hissy fit?

Thanks again!

http://bishonenworks.com/fiction_new/story_chapters/reciprocation1.php by P L Nunn. Half canon, half future-fic, in step with Season 5 tone. "When Lex inadvertently discovers Clark's powers a great deal of buried emotion bubbles to the surface on both their parts. Trust issues abound."

11 parts. Well written from a new non-BNF.

I think I might have read this one...

Ah-ha, it's in my possible rec folder, which means I need to read it again before reccing. Such trials us reccers go through:)

FYI, usually things go in the possible rec folder because I read them while in a crappy mood and thus don't like anything. The vast majority of them get recced in the end. Thanks for the rec and the link!

A fun Smallville/SGA crossover. No Angst. Not really fluffy. Just fun and cute.

Oh, excellent! I'm putting this at the top of my to-read list.

Thanks!

I'm kinda suprised you haven't recced [livejournal.com profile] lanning's (Lanning Cook's) "Identical Series". I thought every CLex fan had read these. They're a great take on Lex and his struggles to stay not-his-father, and how the Kents help keep him sane and alive. As well as his love for and with Clark. The Laundry Scene alone is practicaly fannon these days, or was back when I was in the SV Fandom. Everyone refrenced the laundry scene like gospal. ::LOL::

Divergence (http://lanning.slashdom.net/stories/Divergence.htm) (151k)
Lord Of The Flies (http://lanning.slashdom.net/stories/Flies.htm) (15k)
It Just Came (http://lanning.slashdom.net/stories/ItCame.htm) (22k)
Common Ground (http://lanning.slashdom.net/stories/commonground.html) (181k)
Identical (http://lanning.slashdom.net/stories/Identical.htm) (8k)
Persuasion (http://lanning.slashdom.net/stories/persuasion.htm) (167k)
Accord (http://lanning.slashdom.net/stories/accord.htm) (107k)
Agenda (http://lanning.slashdom.net/stories/agenda.htm) (190k)
Alliance (http://lanning.slashdom.net/stories/alliance.htm) (599k)
Dovetail Joint (http://lanning.slashdom.net/stories/joint.htm) (12k)
And a bonus page of covers to the fics: Identical Art (http://lanning.slashdom.net/identicalart/covers.htm)

As you can see, it's a wide range of fic lengths, but all are incredibly, breath-takeingly good. Her real life kinda turned to shit for a long while there, so we haven't gotten the next fic which she started just under two years ago now, but now that her life is starting to even out again, she is trying to write again. ::crosses fingers:: And while you'll definatly be waiting with baited breath for the next fic in the seires, it dosn't end in the kind of clifhanger that has you screaming at her to get on with it. Definatly worth reading...many times...

And Desire Shall Fail by HRD
http://www.smallville.slashdom.net/archive/46/anddesire.html

Authors summary: The power over life and death should never rest with an emotionally stunted alien -- especially an alien that fancies himself Overlord.

AU fic where an abused and experimented on Clark takes over the world and reinstates slavery. its then that he meets lex. There's some noncon and violence in this, but its mixed with such good character voices that it seems part of the story rather than added for shock/kink value. Some sweet moments do also feature.

Hey, it's that fic that I actually sent feedback for! (It happens so rarely that I tend to remeber each one -- hence the need for me to have a recs community:)

One of the requirements for a story being recced here is that I have to read the fic a second time (which is why Trancendental will never be recced); I'll have to see if I can work up the mood for dark!fic (always a tricky proposition:)

Thanks for the rec!

Bernice just posted a long Clex fic called iHero. From the author's notes: 'Future fic: Lex gets everything he ever wanted, not that he'd ever admit he wanted what he gets.'

Squeeee! Ah, this is why I love reader's recs -- I never would have found this puppy on my own.

Thanks!
