Review: The story follows the last weeks of Ianto’s life. At over 100 years old he’s at peace with dying even if he isn’t quite ready to leave Jack. That peace is shown in how he interacts with his doctors and hospice nurse. As well as how he tries to comfort Jack.

It’s unusual for a story that is written to “fix” cannon to successfully manage to completely ignore cannon. Dance Me to the End is one of those rare fics. It’s even more unusual because it is written in a mixture of the first person perspective of an OC and Ianto’s flashbacks.

It was an inspired if unusual choice as it truly puts the inevitability of Ianto’s death into perspective. Often deathfics involving Jack become suspense/thriller fics as they are sidetracked by Jack’s grief and attempts to find a last minute reprieve. This fic avoids that trap by being narrated by someone who doesn’t know that there is any possibility besides death.
