Hello, everyone! I'm Lilly and I'm a new reccer. You'll commonly see me reccing Stargate: Atlantis, Harry Potter (Snape/Harry), and Supernatural (Sam/Dean) fic-- along with a few rare small fandom fics. Now, since this month's theme is Small Fandoms, I think it'd be prudent that I start off and make my first rec one such type of fic. :)
Title: Rose Colored Glasses
Fandom: Whose Line Is It Anyway?
Pairing: Ryan/Colin
Categories: Drama, Hurt/Comfort, Drama, Humor, Romance, a little bit of angst
Length: Epic (45,000 words)
Warnings: infidelity
Author on LJ: N/A
Author Website: Clay’s Fics
Summary/Excerpt: Ryan was sitting perfectly still, his own dessert untouched. He smiled at Colin, warm, mischievous and absolutely at ease. He winked, slow and easy, and his lips parted. “Now, Col. Run.”
Colin blinked and Ryan’s seat was empty. Colin blinked again and he was twenty feet away, suit jacket flapping behind him, Pat, Deb and the rest of their party staring after him in open mouthed shock. Before he could think Colin was up and chasing after him, dodging tables and nearly tripping over his own feet as he made a mad dash after his best friend toward freedom.
Review: One day, out of the blue, Ryan gives Colin a call and invites him (and his wife) on a cruise (all expenses paid). It’s been years since they’d last seen each other (especially where work wasn’t involved) and this cruise is the perfect way for them to finally spend some quality time relaxing together.
Now, first things first-- the infidelity. As this is RPF/RPS fic and the actors are married, the majority (if not all) of fic slashing these two has cheating involved (unfortunately). Like many of you, I’m highly squicked at the prospect of cheating and was weary to even read the fic knowing this fact. However, I was also intrigued at the prospect of Ryan/Colin fic and tentatively decided to give it a read despite my worries. I’m so glad I did!
The best thing about this fic, in my opinion, is the way their wives are used. There’s no bashing, but the characters are human. The fic opens with Colin already distancing himself from his wife, annoyed by her endless nagging (no, not bashing-- you’ll see!). He still loves her-- knows he will always love her and that sometimes she’s the only thing that keeps him going, but he’s loved Ryan since before he even met her and that love is so much more.
Small Spoiler: As the fic progresses, Deb does find out about what’s beginning to evolve between himself and Ryan and she’s upset (though, not exactly surprised). In the end, however, she’s the one actually encouraging Ryan to go after Colin-- stating that if he doesn’t, she will find a way to get him back. What I love about Deb is that she’s not perfect. She has moments where her actions seem almost cruel, but what it comes down to it, in the end, it's is Colin’s happiness that matter's the most.
This fic is beautiful. As it leads you through it’s story, you fall in love with Colin and the way he craves touch (intimate or otherwise) like his body needs oxygen and the way Ryan has always sensed this about him and accommodated him without a need for words. You fall in love with the ever playful Ryan who's equally terrified of losing both his family and Colin to the point where he finds himself at a standstill, uncertain of what to do but unable to stay away.
