All Clare wants is to have one regular movie date with Henry, but his chrono-displacing gene makes the experience a bit harder than it is for most couples.

"Not the First Date" doesn't have a complex plot, but it more than makes up for it with spot-on characterization. Henry and Clare are wonderfully portrayed and I particularly enjoyed the contrast between the priorities and anxieties of young!Clare and older!Clare's perspective on her youthful follies. All in all, this is a short but wonderfully written fic that reads just like a little piece of the novel.
