Title: Of All the Gin Joints in All the World
Fandom: Bandom (fusion with ‘Casablanca’)
Pairing: Frank/Mikey (hints of Gerard/Ray, some Frank/Bob if you squint)
Categories: angst, AU, dark, drama
Length: Medium (~7000 words)
Warnings: the ending of this one is not terribly happy, just like the movie

Review:
In a dystopian alternate universe where 9/11 invoked a police state, Frank runs a cheap bar, Bob is a member of homeland security, and Gerard is considered a terrorist because of his revolutionary music, with Mikey and Ray also getting some of the flak.
‘Casablanca’ is arguably the best movie of all time. Its story is breakthrough, cinematography breathtaking, and acting is simply superb. The fact that this story is able to do that movie justice is probably some kind of miracle. The plot of this story is able to follow the basic high points of ‘Casablanca’ while tying in the present cleanly, showing what the world could have been if shifted just a degree more into paranoia. And the writing is both smart and perfect in a minimalist way, nothing over-described, just the bleak picture of a dark reality. This plot would make a killer movie in its own right.
