Reader's Rec Roundup

  • Jul. 30th, 2007 at 11:30 AM

I don't know about ya'll, but I'm caught up in the Monday doldrums.  In an attempt to break free, I'm offering a collection of all Reader's Recs themes to date in one location.  Rec in one, rec in all.  Give me something to do this afternoon.  Come on, you know you want to:)

Things to keep in mind:
-Recced stories can be any length, any fandom, and any pairing, as long as they fit the theme
-You don't need to write a review (unless you want to).  All that you need to include are title, author, and link to the story (all parts if there are more than one).

That said, have at it!

Themes:
-Marriage of Convenience
-Long Due South AUs
-Crime Procedurals (anyone posting Bones (Boothe/Bones) or Monk (Stottlemeyer/Disher) fic gets a rec in any fandom of their choice, even if I have to acquaint myself with the fandom first)
-Due South fic (F/V would be a bonus, as I haven't read any before)

I couldn't wait any longer ^_^
I've been waiting to rec for AGES but I never seem to have anything to offer that fits your themes.

I don't suppose you're into original fic at all? If it's Science Fiction? With Reeeeaaally great story-telling? Cuz omg I wanna rec this author so bad!

Every story in the series is Epic. While they all flow together, you can stop at the end of the first one and feel fine about doing so :D That won't work for the second story, though. However, it does work, again, at the end of the third story.

"Long, first-time stories with happy endings and plenty of plot"!

Every story in this series has got that, plus, the first time gets done over and over again in different ways! (due to different time lines being lived differently) I found myself on the edge of my seat while reading, wondering if the protagonist, Davey, would be able to win love again.

Substance! Happy Endings! Time Travel! omg I'm just gonna rec it now, cuz I'm impatient and can't wait for Great Original Fic theme/week ^_^

Title: Do Over
Series: Do Over, Do Over Redux, Doing It Right, and Lets Do It(in progress)
Fandom: Original Fic :)
Pairing(s): Male/male
Length: Epic
Warnings: Time Travel? An extremely awesome read? Slashy boy love? You've been warned!

Author: Dan Kirk
Author website: http://dkstories.gayauthors.org/

Here's the author's Do Over intro:

"Have you ever dreamed of the chance to go back in time and change the decisions of the past? Have you ever wondered what would happen if you’d done one little thing differently? Davey Jones drifted through life, never achieving anything major, until he took part in a mad experiment. Like most of us, Davey Jones loved science fiction, so he should have known better than to trust a mad scientist…now he must live his own life over again, but should he, or can he, change anything?"

You can stop reading the storyline after Do Over, but if you're gonna continue after Do Over, read'em in order!

Happy reading!

Re: I couldn't wait any longer ^_^
I'm glad you posted this, because I'm still feeling for what works as an RR theme (thus far I've got "Marriage of Convenience". That seems to work for everyone. Other than that, nothin'. :) and who knows when I might have gotten around to Original Fic.

Thanks for the rec!

Re: I couldn't wait any longer ^_^
No problem! Actually it's mostly due to you that I found this author, so I thank you!

You provided the link to Hikaru No Go which I promptly got hooked on, which made me look for Hikaru/Sai fiction (which is practically non-existant :/ lol), which made me find HnG authors, which made me look at those author's recs, and lo and behold: awesome Dan Kirk fiction :D

Hee! Six degrees of Epic Recs:)

Also, Hikaru/Sai? How does that, um, work?

Glad I hooked you, though. It's good stuff, isn't it? :)

Re: I couldn't wait any longer ^_^
Once I started reading the manga, I couldn't stop! Good stuff :)

I like reading Hikaru/Sai fanfiction where the writer makes Sai come back, but alive this time :D

All I've got right now, though, is two WiP's. They're Icredibly Awesome ideas, but still... WiP's. I'm still looking though!
