Review:
For reasons we won’t go into right now, one night Mal and Jayne have sex. Then another night they do it again. And before long it’s a regular thing between them. It only takes one night to make it into something else entirely.
This is one of the only really believable Jayne/Mal stories I’ve ever read. Neither of them is perfect, but their relationship is so natural, such an extension of what had to be, it has the reader completely believing it. The writing is excellent, and the characters’ voices are quite good, which is difficult to pull off in this ‘verse. The supporting characters, Simon and Zoe especially, are really supportive.
On the less pleasant side, the Kaylee/Inara relationship is painful. I simply do not believe Inara would be that cruel. Also, the secondary characters are all mentioned, but they simply do not get big enough parts in this story. Still a very good fic, although I wish it would have shown a bit more crew and a bit less relationship.
