Review:
After an incident in battle, Tony (who still depends on the Armor’s chest plate to survive) is forced to reveal his secret identity. Steve has to deal with the repercussions of this revelation and of his increased worry for his teammate.

I have a not-so-secret love for fics where a hero’s secret identity is revealed and this story just hit all the right buttons for me. While a revelation is usually followed by huge amounts of angst and serious conversations about trust (and the lack of it), Nix decided to go in a different direction: the main issue is not that Tony didn’t tell Steve his identity sooner, but how that revelation ends up affecting their relationship, as Steve worries more and more about Tony (and realizes precisely why) and Tony starts to believe Steve does not think he is good enough for the team.

Combining an interesting revelation plot with wonderful characterization, “Beneath The Armor” is a fantastic early Avengers fic.
