Title: Sons of Misfortune
Fandom: SPN
Pairing: Castiel/Dean
Categories: action/adventure, angst, AU
Length: epic
Warnings: non-explicit mpreg, violence, torture (minor), gore (minor), minor character deaths (no one we really care about)
Author on LJ:

Website: n/a
Author's Summary: “He never had a mother,” said Dean quietly. “He’s my son…and Castiel’s.”
Review:
Six years after the departure of Castiel, Dean struggles to keep their son safe and his identity hidden. But Demons are sneaky little bastards, and when a prophecy concerning a half-angel is told, all Hell breaks loose. If that wasn't enough, Castiel picks the perfect moment to come back and protect his family...and inevitably makes everything worse.
For those of you squicked by mpreg, there's no actual discussion of it in the story. Dean reveals that Jake is his and Castiel's son, but we are never told the what and how. *Maybe it wasn't even mpreg. Maybe Jake simply came into existence. You know, like the Virgin Birth.* And frankly, I don't really care; I have no desire to read about a woman being pregnant/going through pregnancy and even less for explicit mpreg.
This is actually quite a refreshing story because, unlike most Castiel/Dean stories I've encountered, Sons of Misfortune does not contain any Castiel/Dean non-con, it has a storyline that's exciting and easy to follow (seriously, non of that avant garde, neo-impressionist stuff), and a happy ending of the perfectly normal variety. I enjoyed the plot and writing and was most impressed with Castiel's characterization (wonderfully complex; a bit of a jerk yet still an angel) albeit typos and some inconsistency in word choice. There's also a sequel in the works where Dean and Castiel have a much less screwed up relationship (some may even call it fluff) while Demons of Hell are after the Winchesters. Again!
Perhaps not a story for everyone but highly recommended.
