While I prefer the book over the film, the movie version of Neil Gaiman’s Stardust has many things to recommend it – Robert De Niro’s cross-dressing Captain Shakespeare and his loyal crew aboard the Caspartine being one of them.

The fic tells the story of one of the pirates, nicknamed Skinny, who comes aboard the Caspartine while it was still commanded by Captain Ghostmaker. As time passes, Skinny starts noticing Shakespeare more and more, finding out about his secret and developing feelings he dare not mention.

Somehow I missed this story back in December, when we had Yuletide recs, but it is just too good not to be recced. I love how Marie managed to flesh out such a minor character and make him so interesting and the way she deals with his relationship with Shakespeare is just superb. A highly recommended fic.
