Review:
Iruka is supposed to meet Kakashi for a date, but instead of an amorous Jonin, he meets one that seems intend on killing him. Unsure about what is going on, he has to use all his skills to run for his life.

As I am sure you're quite tired of hearing by now, one of the aspects that most appeal to me in Naruto fics are the repercussions of being a ninja. "Hunter's Moon" explores one of the most interesting facets of this: what happens when you are forced to face in battle the ones you love?

I love how Kakashi and Iruka are portrayed in the fic. Kakashi is not heartless, but he puts the safety of the village before anything else. Iruka's level of skill is handled competently - he is neither an incompetent fool or a super powered ninja hiding under the guise of a simple school teacher. All in all, it is not hard to see why this story is considered to be one of the classics of the Kakashi/Iruka ship.

For those that like doujinshins, a manga version of the fic, drawn by Lei-Sam, can be found (with pages out of chronological order) on her gallery at deviantart.

This is actually the one Naruto fic by Malador that I will never read again.

I think it's more realistic in portraying what ninja-village life must be like than most Naruto fic, and it's very well-written. But partner betrayal is a big squick for me and too much of the fic feels like that before we really know what's going on. I guess I'd categorize it as "angst" but not h/c because the comfort is lacking.

I can definitely understand your point of view as partner betrayal is usually something I dislike a lot. The first time I read this fic I had no intention of reccing it and didn't even save it in my favorites. But then I ended up reading it again and many more times since then, making me realize it had really appealed to me on some level and that's why I decided to rec it.

I'll admit that the "comfort" part here is very subjective and I interpreted in a looser sense than you usually see in fic. The thing that really made me like this fic is that while there's the issue of betrayal and loyalties, the conflict, despite the fact that it will always remain present, is ultimately set aside and their relationship becomes even stronger.

I completely agree with you. I had trouble starting it, but eventually I came back to it and it somehow appealed to me.

Thanks for rec'ing it, because I think that more people could stand to read fic like this that are different from the conventional. I love reading about worlds that are so different than our own that yeah, it's hard to understand the characters' motivations. Doesn't make it any less good!
