Author's Summary: A man has passed away, and a man has come back. Distraught and confused, Al Potter reaches a new understanding of his life and himself.
Review:
Albus’ boss is dead and his new boss is someone he has a history with. While it’s probably more important to solve the murder, Albus’ brain is more interested in figuring out what happened on that fateful night three years ago. And as if Albus’ life wasn’t complicated enough already, all of this happens right around the time his mother gets re-married, again, his brother tries to kill himself and almost succeeds, and his sister outdoes herself at being bitchy and manipulative, probably just for the hell of it.
For whatever reason, I always imagined Harry Potter having a dysfunctional family when he grows up. C’mon, he lived in a cupboard under the staircase until 11-years-old and had relatives who treated him barely better than a slave. Harry himself seemed well-adjusted enough, for someone who’s had such a horrible childhood, in the books, but I can very much see him overcompensating when it comes to raising his own kids. The family dynamics in Discombobulation represents one of those extremes and it certainly intrigued me. Viktor’s characterization was quite a surprise to me – I have always pictured him as a dumb jock, perhaps a bully, even – although powerful and collected, as portrayed in this story, also suit him very well.
This is definitely not a tragedy, or even a story with a bad ending, but not everything is resolved and life will probably continue to throw challenges at our beloved anti-hero.
