Review
:
After TSbyBS, Blair basically falls apart and Jim isn't doing much better. Eventually Blair runs away from home, though in this instance he's doing it before he and Jim can damage their relationship beyond repair. Can Jim cope without a guide? And can Blair heal himself enough to give him and Jim a shot?

This fic has eight parts and I'm warning you now that the first three are really tough for me to get through. If you have a higher tolerance than I do for the hurt part of hurt/comfort (and, really, who doesn't?) you probably won't find them so grim, but if you are as wussy as I am, just know that things will get much better.

The hurt aside, this is a great fic. The writing is good, the characterizations are different (though possibly more accurate than usual considering the level of stress these guys are going through), and I absolutely adore the fact that a) Blair and Jim are given sufficient time to heal and b) Blair proves himself capable of taking care of himself without Jim. This level of self-sufficiency in both men is my favorite part of the fic -- they may not be particularly happy alone, but they aren't so co-dependent that it's impossible for them to survive without the other. Overall a solid post-series fic that is particularly good when it's focusing on Blair's personal growth.

Gah
Holy fic, batman, that's one folder I wouldn't want to sort through. Hey, read 'Without Fear', and really loved the first five parts (the last three were a bit schmoopy for my, but still well-written).

And now we're to the point where you're going to kill me, because I'm going to give you another rec. The Giles Thing (http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=drsquidlove&keyword=Giles+Thing&filter=all) is potentially the best Giles/Xander fic that's ever been written. The original story (The Giles Thing 1) is a very well written piece that has an interesting plot of 18-year-old Giles time traveling to Sunnydale circa 1999. The rest of the stories are a bit less with the plot devices and a bit more with the realistic relationships, whether they be with friends, family, or boyfriend. The whole shebang is told from Xander's POV, and is really well written in that sense for a non-American. The whole thing is over 100,000 words. (The first link I gave you was to the bits from [livejournal.com profile] drsquidlove's lj, the first and second stories are The Giles Thing 1 (http://www.seeking-solace.com/NoOneKnows-GX/fiction/TheGilesThing.htm) and The Giles Thing 2 (http://www.seeking-solace.com/NoOneKnows-GX/fiction/TheGilesThing2.htm) respectively. Both of these can be read without the sequels...although the sequels are well worth the read.)

Now I'm going to run and hide from the wrath of the overfull folder...

Re: Gah
Heh. Feel free to rec away, though I'm warning everyone at this point that it could literally be *years* before I get to a given story. (I have stories from *2004* in my to read folder; at the moment I'm working on reading anything from 2007 and earlier, in the hopes of catching and potentially reccing stories before they disappear from the net. Gah.)

Thanks!
