Review:
In honor of the All Star Weekend going on up in Ottawa I decided to break out another hockey rec. I love my fandom tropes, baristas, drunk weddings, you name it and I’m drawn to it like nobody’s business and while there are many (many many) fics out there in those categories that don’t do it for me, this one absolutely does, for many (many many) reasons.

The best thing about this fic? The Toews voice. The story is from his POV and it is simply a wonderful, fantastic mix of arrogance and cluelessness. Seriously the guy doesn’t have any problems with ego but the author does a great job of just mixing it in to the narrative without over doing it. There were more than a few times I was totally amused yet wanted to punch the character at the same time because he was just that dense when it came to his feelings and Pat’s.

Another great part of this story is the way the author portrays Patrick Kane. Jon may be clueless but the reader can see what’s going on and it’s obvious that Pat is totally in heart pounding, pining love with a Jon who just doesn’t get it. It would be awesome to see this fic from Pat’s point of view because while Jon was emotionally clueless you have to figure Pat was on this roller coaster of up and down until Jon finally got it together.

Third best thing about this fic is the banter between the two. They aren’t mushy, heck during sex they continue to insult each other, and their dialogue from beginning to end is so in character and terrific.

Some other highlights? The way Jon is slowly clued in to his feelings (loved the teammate interaction), and of course, the obligatory happy ending. Coach Q giving Jon a marriage pep talk is hilarious and one of the best hockey fic scenes I've come across, the obligatory Sidney Crosby is a robot joke made me laugh, and Pat’s sisters scaring the hell out of Jon was terrific.
