Title: The Matter of Rules Arc
Fandom: Pirates of the Caribbean
Pairing: Jack Sparrow/James Norrington, Will/Elizabeth, and a surprise (two minor characters)
Categories: first time, pre-slash, adventure, angst, humor, romance
Length: Epic [between the main stories, 115,000 words]
Warnings: n/a

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] commodoresexual
Website: Noiresensus

Review:
Sparrow and Norrington get to know each other. Eventually, as Will and Elizabeth prepare for their wedding, the Commodore becomes Jack's new goal. Amidst adventure, British Navy entanglements, a stop-over at old New Orleans, and battle, the affection becomes mutual.

It's too difficult to summarize what happens in this series. I'll just say that 1) it made Jack/James my OTP of snark and schmoop, 2) there was an absolutely wonderful background laid out for both main characters, 3) the minor characters - the crew of the Black Pearl and the British Navy officers - are terrifically written, and 4) the romance, anachronistic dance scene and all, was tremendous. I seriously have used this series to replace the second and third films in my personal canon.

YES! I've been wanting some good PotC fic for *ages*! Thank you:)

A lot of the PotC authors I would've recced pulled up their tents and left the fandom after the second movie came out. Unfortunately, they tended to dump their fic, too, so that it's impossible to find now.

(Even this fic series has an epilogue that I saved, but that I can't find anywhere online. For a while, Commodoresexual/Wren looked like she was dumping her fic too, but it looks like she kept whatever she still liked up on the Noiresensus site. Which is unfortunate, because I quite liked some of the vanished stories by her.)

I find it so strange that everyone loved Norrington so much after the first movie -- it wasn't till the second that I could see the appeal. And apparently I'm the only one who liked the second movie. (The third was, admittedly, utterly awful.)

Oddly enough, while I'm not very good at articulating what about Movie1!Norrington appealed to me, other than to blither about my old love, the Age of Sail, Commodoresexual/Wren/L.M. Griffin's Sparrow did it for me, in the first fic. :) If I wasn't so attached to the first version of the character, I wouldn't have minded the second. Also, when I saw film 2 at the theater, the sound broke, so I missed vital plot points.

Ouch. My issue is that the plots of the second and (especially) the third movies revolve around characters introduced in the second movie. You know, the one's I didn't care about *at all*. *sigh*

Would you mind terribly emailing the epilogue to me? persephone451 (at) gmail (dot) com

I just spent all night reading this fic and am considering /rereading/ it just to enjoy the versions of these characters again!

Oh man, yay for reccing this! I love this series and have formatted for my e-reader. I'm glad someone decided to rec it, it's really an amazing story! Also, I agree, I pretend this is the way it went and completely ignore the other movies. :)

See, I don't mind the second movie, but then I consider it basically setting out a canonical foursome (seriously, that swordfighting is nothing but very thinly veiled references to the orgies that are clearly going on). The third movie, however, was an utter disaster. *sigh* I'll never get those two hours back...

I couldn't really bring myself to like the second movie. I found myself wanting someone to toss Elizabeth overboard even though I quite enjoyed her character before. The third movie, in my opinion, was absolute rubbish and the fact that they've said they're planning to do a fourth just makes me want to forget the second and third movies even more.

I do, however, love the imagery you put in my head with that whole swordfighting being a thinly veiled reference to orgies. Heh. :D

Oh, God, seriously? What could the fourth movie possibly be about?

Sadly, yep. Johnny Depp is apparently going to reprise his role as Jack Sparrow. I don't think they've gotten a script together for it yet but I really don't know if there's anything left to do unless the do they whole Jack as an immortal thing they were toying around with for a while.

Well, Will is gone for ten years, so maybe they're going to pair Jack and Elizabeth? With James as part of the triangle? (Ooo, or an actual threesome? This series has gotten weird enough that I can almost see it happening...)

Can't get much better than this. One of THE epics fics to come out of POTC fandom.

Highly agree with [livejournal.com profile] pir8fancier. Just finished this fic, and I am a happy, happy fangirl. It replaces the canon for me now, I loved it so much. ♥

Thank you so much for rec'ing it!

Oh Man! I hate to be a terribly Johnny-Come-Lately, but this was one of my most favorite fics ever! I read the epilogue, had it bookmarked but never saved, much to my ever lasting sorrow. I tried to track it down... close to four years ago now and never could. If you ever find this comment again, I'd adore to have it! My email is 'magearod at msn dot ca'

Hello!I kept hearing about this fic so I read it. I would read into the night and fall asleep on my ipod at times. It's amazingly good! Now that I'm done (;A;) I see there is an epilogue. I have tried the download link and it does not work. Sincerest of apologies for the trouble but would it be possible to email it? aquarium_fish_green@yahoo.com
If it is too much trouble, feel free to say no! :)
