I struggled with how to write up this review. For the whole week the only thing I had for the actual review was “It’s awesome.” So what makes this story awesome? For one thing, it’s a political AU. My West Wing loving heart has a real soft spot for political AU’s, especially those with WW references in them. This story takes place at the 2008 DNC where journalist Brad meets up and coming politician Nate. They are both former Marines, Nate served in Afghanistan, but not Iraq, so they didn’t serve together although they know some of the same people from their various tours.

The author does a great Brad voice. He’s sarcastic, dry, observant, flippant, and attracted to Nate immediately. Nate has that little edge of cocky and confident that isn’t always found in other GK fic, and his interactions with Brad are playful and flirtatious from the start. There are some great cameos, of a sort, by Poke, Ray, and Writer that are so spot on and humorous I kind of want a fic of just their interactions with Brad via email. While the plot and the resolution were interesting what I like most about this fic is its humor, characterizations, and the interactions between the characters.
