Review: This story starts when anthropologist Heero Yuy sets out to discover the meaning of grief. His final stop on the way to discovering the meaning of grief is the Peacecraft Memorial Hospital, where he meets Dr. Duo Maxwell who works in the children's ward with many terminally ill patients.
This is more of a character study piece than a plot driven story. Heero is the POV character but Duo is the one who's being studied. His interaction with his patients as well as his reaction to loss helps Heero to come to terms with his own inability to grieve and to find a use for the study he's spent most of his adult life.
The OC's are well rendered and heartbreakingly memorable, and while the prose style is a little clunkier than I usually prefer it fits well with the person Heero is portrayed to be in this thought provoking and memorable story.

Title: Rainbow Sherbert
Fandom: Gundam Wing
Pairing: Wufei/ Treize, past: Wufei/ Meiran, Treize/ Zechs side: Heero/ Duo

Warnings: partner betrayal, Aids, character death

Review: Rainbow Sherbert isn't a story I would usually read, much less rec. A good deal of the story is taken up by sex scenes and the story begins with partner betrayal and the discovery that both Meiran and Wufei have Aids.
What made me fall in love with this story is what happens after that. Treize has fallen in love with Wufei and won't let him go even when they both know that their relationship is doomed. This knowledge adds a poignancy and immediacy to their love story. And Wufei's death, while not a surprise is still heartbreaking. Treize's reaction to the loss even more so.
Tzigane and Zaganthi are two of my favorite authors because of their ability to write stories that are both angst ridden and every day. This story runs the gambit from slice of life drama involving eccentric cats and antique beds, to steamy romance, and finally to heartbreaking tragedy. If you read this fic, be sure to have tissues on hand, because the final chapter is a complete tearjerker
