Fandom: From Eroica With Love
Pairing: Dorian/Klaus... or is it?
Categories: AU, action, angst, amnesia, drama, humor, romance, post-canon
Length: Epic [~72,000 words]
Warnings: violence, 9/11 references, dubious governments
Author on LJ: n/a

Review: "After twenty-five years of resisting Eroica’s advances, Klaus finally gives in, only to have the Earl drop a bombshell that convinces the Major that the world he knew ended without his knowledge and was replaced with a cruel parody. Nobody breathe or the house of cards will collapse."
I usually can't believe in AUs with characters who reveal that, all along, they were actually a secret agent/royalty/Swedish, and thus their behavior was all just part of their fake persona. Margaret does it right, though - especially since the secret that Eroica thinks he's revealing isn't entirely true, or even the whole of the story. (Plus, Klaus gets even with a heck of a reveal near the end.)
This fic has action, and lots of it. For those who like intrigue, spies, and caper stories, this is the story for you. (Bonus points to the author for being willing to age everyone so the fic could be set post-9/11, and not still in the Cold War of canon. Canon's great, but sometimes one wants to see different political issues.) There's also attention paid to minor characters, including one cameo that is an excellent projection of who a young boy from the Middle East in the 1970s could have grown up to be. That's rare in a fandom that often forgets about everyone other than the leads. Mind you, some characters might seem OOC, or derailed - but just stick with Ms. Price, and eventually you'll find out what's really behind the wizard's curtain. Finally, and in conclusion, hoyay that has basis in canon should not be passed up by the discerning slash reader.

Fandom: Star Trek XI - bonus rec!
Pairing: Kirk/McCoy
Categories: angst, drama, romance
Length: Medium [just over 2,000 words]
Warnings: character death - it's sorta the point; gory medical happenings

Review: "There are many alternate destinies. Yet out of the infinitely diverse destinies of Leonard McCoy and James Kirk, this is the one that lives to be told." Or, McCoy gets a gift from a dying patient - the ability to see, three times only, the ruthlessness of probability.
I love this short fic to bits - appropriately, since it makes me feel like my heart is breaking along with Bones'. Aya ties the "gift" into canon in a way that makes sense; it handily explains why Bones would mention his ex-wife in the Reboot-movie but not his daughter, and it makes his relationship with Jim more poignant (well, is there a better word for having watched a thousand versions of your best friend and lover die on your operating table?). Rest assured, guys, this is a bittersweet but happy ending... just consider having a tissue box available.
