For those of you unaware, Panic at the Disco is splitting up. As you can imagine, the fandom has understandably been going nuts, so I wanted to rec my favorite PatD feel-good story.

Title: If Music Be The Food Of Love (I'll Have The Veggie Burger)
Author: sunsetmog
Fandom: Bandom
Pairing: Brendon/Spencer
Categories: Romance, Fluff, Angst, Hurt/Comfort
Length: Epic
Warnings: Though the author rates the story as R there is explicit sex that I would rate as NC-17
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sunsetmog

Author’s Summary: Oblivious High School Failboats in Love, or, Brendon Urie: The High School Years.

Review:
If Music Be The Food Of Love is one of the fandom favorites and a staple for this pairing – deservedly so. The story focuses on Brendon and the early formation of the band, and it’s almost too adorable for words, but I’ll try.

Sunsetmog has called this her not-so-secret love letter to the fandom, and it really is. Firstly, sunsetmog did her homework; all sorts of little details revealed in interviews are woven into the narrative, making the story a truly impressive imagining of the band’s forming. Utterly believable.

Secondly, the characterization is wonderful and shows that the author clearly loves these guys. Brendon is sweet, spazzy, and eminently huggable, and his high school angst of not fitting in is both heartbreaking and refreshingly understated in its presentation. As far as Spencer is concerned… well, you’ll want a Spencer of your own by the time you’re done reading. As a plus, sunsetmog even writes a sympathetic Brent – no character bashing as is so common with him.

Lastly, the storyline itself: the hurt/comfort is delicious and really speaks to anyone who ever felt alienated in school or at odds with their parents’ expectations. Sunsetmog doesn’t belabor the angst, but rather lets the universality of it hit you on its own strengths, and then she makes it all better with some truly heartwarming fluff. It’s the kind that makes me actually clasp my hands to my heart.

This story is guaranteed to put a smile on your face and make you want to cuddle up to it.
