RR -- Vids

  • Feb. 11th, 2008 at 8:52 AM
Yet another theme week, and one that I myself can hardly believe -- Vid Week.  Yes, that's right, I actually came up with a *whole week's* worth of vid recs!  Will wonders never cease?

For those looking to rec vids to me, here are a few tips:
-I'm not a huge fan of single-fandom vids, unless there's a twist.  In fact, the best vids (in my opinion) are the ones with a plot or a seriously clever approach.
-Quality is absolutely necessary.  I don't care how good the vid is, if it's fuzzy or hard to view due to the crappy rendering, I'm probably not going to finish watching it.
-And...well, I guess that's it.  Happy reccing!

(Also, since this'll be my last chance to request this for a couple of months -- does anyone know of any good *long* Seth/Ryan OC fic?  I've had a request for recs and I'd love to accomodate, but I'm basically out of fiction at this point.  Thanks!)

Things to keep in mind:
-Recced stories can be any length, any fandom, and any pairing, as long as they fit the theme
-You don't need to write a review (unless you want to).  All that you need to include are title, author, and link to the story (all parts if there are more than one).

That said, have at it!

Atlantis Royale by Starrylizard (PG-13)

  • Feb. 11th, 2008 at 9:18 AM
Title: Atlantis Royale
Musical Artist: David Arnold
Fandom: Stargate Atlantis
Pairing: John/Elizabeth, John/Teyla (implied), John/every other female in a Joe Flanigan fandom (implied)
Warnings: n/a

Vidder on LJ: starrylizard
Master List Link: http://starrylizard.livejournal.com/274466.html

Review:
John Sheppard: charming, sly, good with ladies, great with guns. Deadly enemy. Shameless womanizer. Intergalactic spy. Sort of. Also, one of my least favorite characters of all time, so if I'm reccing a vid that's *all about him*, you know it must be good.

Part of my love for this vid comes from the music: I have a tremendous weakness for all of the James Bond theme songs, but a particular passion for the original theme. Just hearing the music makes me happy.

Even better, however, is how brilliantly conceived this vid is. Virtually every scene is one of the iconoclastic Bond moments, from the mysterious spy looking down on the care-free, frolicking, half-naked (of course) ladies, to the Mexican standoff against all odds, to Bond's amazing ability to do...well, everything, to the moment when Bond runs through a guantlet of machine-gun toting henchment (and escaping unscathed, natch), to the inevitable makeout session with the Bond girl (Elizabeth, heh). Most of the time, even the *camera work* is eerily reminiscent of a Bond movie. I spent most of this vid flailing in glee over the similarities to actual Bond canon and the rest thinking that I'd really like to see this Bond movie if it ever came out.

A perfect vid for fans of Stargate: Atlantis, James Bond, or, you know, sheer awesomeness.
