After the one-two punch of learning that Ray K has died in a carjacking and simultaneously getting a letter from Ray telling him that he's loved him for years, Fraser stops eating. Or drinking. And kind of goes downhill from there.
Okay, first things first: you all know I'm never, ever going to rec a death fic unless it's in some sort of universe where death is just the first step to some sort of far more interesting new life. So, if you're anything like me and avoid death-fics like the plague, well, be reassured. This fic is safe.
As for the story itself, there are so many things that I like about it I don't even know where to start. For one, I love the fact that Starfish brings in mention of Robert Fraser. Due South is unique in that it has canon evidence of an afterlife and that really comes into play when dealing with suicide; after all, death isn't such a bad option when you know you're going to have a shot at continuing to communicate with those you love. Couple that with an excellent Fraser and Ray and lovely cameos from Maggie and (a simply adorable) Dief, and you have a wonderful story of loss, despair, recovery, and love.
