Review:
Alyjude is my TS guilty pleasure and Two Faces is just one reason why. On the surface my love of this story doesn't make sense, as she uses many of the fandom cliches that drive me nuts: Jim and Blair fall in love overnight, Blair tries to run away at every turn, and there's non-con (my rape/non-con issues are so great that I sometimes stop reading a story because of an *attempted* rape). On the other hand, there's also snappy dialogue, a nearly-Harlequin plot, and frankly, it's almost impossible not to like her Jim and Blair. Plus there's melodrama, and while you don't want every story to be melodramatic, every once in a while there's something really fun about wallowing in a bit of over-dramatic angst.

Hm. Okay, I don't know that anyone would read this story based on the above recommendation. How about this: it's a fast, fun read, the good guys win, and it features a warm and fuzzy and yet entirely unsappy Christmas scene. Plus great dialogue. Give it a try, I think you'll like it.

Reader's Rec Roundup

  • Jul. 30th, 2007 at 11:30 AM

I don't know about ya'll, but I'm caught up in the Monday doldrums.  In an attempt to break free, I'm offering a collection of all Reader's Recs themes to date in one location.  Rec in one, rec in all.  Give me something to do this afternoon.  Come on, you know you want to:)

Things to keep in mind:
-Recced stories can be any length, any fandom, and any pairing, as long as they fit the theme
-You don't need to write a review (unless you want to).  All that you need to include are title, author, and link to the story (all parts if there are more than one).

That said, have at it!

Themes:
-Marriage of Convenience
-Long Due South AUs
-Crime Procedurals (anyone posting Bones (Boothe/Bones) or Monk (Stottlemeyer/Disher) fic gets a rec in any fandom of their choice, even if I have to acquaint myself with the fandom first)
-Due South fic (F/V would be a bonus, as I haven't read any before)
