I have boundless love for cracky Harlequin AUs, but I have even more love for Harlequin AUs that aren't crack at all (I also have love for New Jersey, which recently passed civil unions for same-sex couples into law, thus making this story possible). A Modest Proposal is your standard marriage of convenience scenario, but it is so well handled that by the time House and Wilson actually get married, it honestly does seem like the only thing they possibly could have done.
I could give you details of the plot, but does it really matter? House is in trouble, Wilson marries him, and everyone makes their lives miserable. House is his usual cranky self (props to ignazwisdom for making him both a flaming asshole (per canon) and, simultaneously, as sympathetic as he is on the show), Wilson is long-suffering and possibly clinically co-dependent (though he has much more of a spine than he has in canon), and Cuddy and the Cottages (aka Foreman, Chase, and Cameron) are all brilliantly in character. Enjoy!
