RR -- Yuletide and/or Holiday Fic

  • Dec. 25th, 2009 at 1:18 AM
From now until the end of the year, we'll be reccing holiday fic, as well as fic from the Yuletide fic exchange.  If you have recs for either category, here's the place to share them!  (Note that Yuletide recs don't have to be from this year's Yuletide -- anything on the Yuletide archive (old or new) is eligible).

Things to keep in mind:
-Recced stories can be any length, any fandom, and any pairing, as long as they fit the theme
-You don't need to write a review (unless you want to). All that you need to include are title, author, and link to the story (all parts if there are more than one). We are actively seeking new reccers at the moment. If you'd like to be considered, be sure to do a full review similar to the reviews posted on the comm.

That said, have at it!

Today's Topic: Yuletide and/or Holiday fic

I have at least one rec so far. Where do we post them--in the comments here?

Yes, just post the Title, Author's name,Link to the story, and preferably the fandom in the comment.

If your reccing a story from this years Yuletide you would obviously not give the author's name.

A Dr Who Christmas special
Title: The Gift of the Mad Guy
Categories: Gen, Humor or Crack
Length: ~10,000

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge
Website: [livejournal.com profile] sam_storyteller
Summary: The Doctor joins some Kings of Orient following a star, helps a quartet of sociologists, gets thrown in prison, meets shepherds (ditto: talking sheep), finds a baby in a stable, uses Christmas carols for nefarious ends, and learns The True Meaning Of Camel.

Review: A cracktastic Christmas classic from a master storyteller, this is intelligent as well as funny.

Harry Potter Tales - A Marauder Christmas Pageant
Title: Reindeer Games (http://community.livejournal.com/hp_holidaygen/5287.html)
Characters: Professor Slughorn, the Marauders, Lily Evans, Severus Snape, plus some surprises
Rating: PG
Length: Medium (probably about 6,000)
Authors Website: her blog is [livejournal.com profile] a_t_rain and most of her stories are here at Fiction Alley. (http://www.fictionalley.org/authors/after_the_rain/)
Summary: Professor Slughorn is traditionally in charge of Hogwarts Christmas pageant so, of course, he wants his favorites to be in the lead. With Lily as Mary, Severus as Joseph, and Remus as a "wolf in sheep's clothing," what could go wrong?

Why you chose this: You seem not to have recc’d anything of the Marauders yet and this story is a personal favorite of mine. The characterizations are sharp, the tale witty and so vivid it plays out before you like a film.

Title: The Last Virtue (http://www.thechicagoloop.net/yahtzee/chivalry/chivfic/LastVirtue.htm)
Author: Yahtzee
Fandom: Angel, The Series; spoilers through mid-season 4

This isn't a feel-good, fluffy holiday fic, but it is a very well done holiday-themed "Angel" fic. Definitely check it out if you are a fan of Gunn and think there are not enough fics written from his POV!

Author's Summary: "Gunn has always considered Kwanzaa severely suspect, a fake holiday that has less to do with being black than it does with selling crap like the kente-cloth table runners. In darker moments, he thinks it's probably the result of an evil collaboration between Al Sharpton and Hallmark."
