Title: Letters.

Pairing: Fitzwilliam Darcy/Elizabeth Bennet.

Author’s Summary:
“This being the correspondence exchanged between Miss Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Fitzwilliam Darcy during the period of their engagement.”
Review:
Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy are finally engaged, but there are still months to go until their wedding and Darcy’s presence is necessary at London and Pemberley to settle business matters. Thus, he and Elizabeth heavily depend on their correspondence to settle their lingering fears and doubts about their relationship and deepen their acquaintance.
Fics that explore what happened during Darcy and Elizabeth’s engagement are not rare in the P&P fandom. “Letters” manages to set itself apart in a number of ways. It’s not a conventional narrative; it avoids the pitfalls of being either too blissful or too melodramatic (managing a good balance of realistic troubles and romantic declarations) and, above all else, develops the relationship and trust between Darcy and Elizabeth beautifully. You can see it deepen clearly through the letters, especially through their change in tone: at first formal and uncertain and, as time goes on, progressively more passionate and intimate.
Having a fic constantly changing point of views and relying solely on letters to tell a story might have gotten tiresome after the first few pages, but Marj managed to use the format to its fullest capacity and produce a compelling epistolary narrative.
