Review:
Welcome to Loserville. Population: two. There are worse places to be.

Worse places to be, indeed. Loserville is probably one of my favorite Spike and Xander stories on the net. Filled with the lightheartedness of Buffy’s earlier seasons, this story is an entertaining romp through the life post-high school with Spike making his home with Xander, though admittedly it isn’t exactly voluntary on Xander’s part, and Buffy and Willow being swallowed up by college life, and leaving their friend to make buddy-buddy with a (chipped) vampire.

While the later seasons of Buffy seemed to take a left turn somewhere in the vicinity of go-fight-win and left a good chunk of the humor behind, shrift did an excellent job of reminding me why I loved these characters so much. They were funny, they were optimistic, they made bitch-face at each other while they snarked and shared cheesy-pizza. Seriously, I didn’t realize how much I missed this early version of the Scooby gang until I read this story (despite the fact that the majority of this fic centers around Xander and, eventually, Spike). Overall, I have to say that if you’re looking for something fun to read, feeling nostalgic, or are just wanting to read about Xander having an amusing sexual identity crisis even while thinking naughty thoughts about Spike, well, this is the right story for you.
