Review: 
Shikamaru and Temari have been in a relationship for some time and decide to get married. However, neither one wants to defect to the other’s village and they have a hard time figuring out a way to be able to stay together if the current alliance were to change. And while Shikamaru eventually runs into an old Konoha law that seems to be the answer to all their problems, it’s not that easy to put it into practice.

While Shikamaru/Temari is a popular pairing, I haven’t run across many interesting fics about them. “Catch-22” is a true gem: beautifully written, with great characterization and funny and poignant in just the right measures. The main plot-point is something that is sadly under-explored (if not entirely ignored) in most Naruto fics: no matter how much two ninjas may love each other, if they come from different villages, the question of their loyalty will always be an issue, even if alliances are in place.

To sum it up, this is a wonderful fic about love, loyalty and what it means to be a ninja.
