Review:
Turns out Sateda isn't quite as dead as everyone thought, though the survivors are few and rife with conflict. The majority of this story is about Atlantis's attempts to help return the Satedans to self-sufficiency, which is tougher than it sounds thanks to the increasingly strident political strife within the tiny Satedan community. Then you get the whole Doranda incident and the subsequent angst (yay!), and that's just the beginning of Atlantis's troubles...

As expected from Cate, the writing is beautiful and the plot interesting (especially if you are a fan of survival!fic and/or political intrigue). The story is populated with OC's, not a one of whom is even remotely Mary Sue-ish; my favorite is Caius, who is sort of like a mini-Rodney, only nicer. Best of all is the Atlantis characterizations, all of which are spot on (especially Ronon, who is discovering that he isn't the only one left after all, and John, who is discovering his feelings for Rodney). In fact, my only problem with the fic is that the post-Doranda segment is (say it with me) too short. The Doranda debacle is so critical (and so full of potential) that it deserves an epic length story all its own (and any recommendations of stories that fit that criteria would be very much appreciated). All in all, a good solid read.
