Review:  What Edward Elric could do, after succeeding in his quest to restore his brother.

I don't know what inspired Mikkeneko, but I wish it happened more often in fandom.  We fans know that Ed was deeply affected by Nina and her involuntary transformation into a chimera, so it makes sense that he would dedicate himself to finding the cure for chimerism.  In the backstory, Ed suffers each and every time that his attempts go wrong - because yet another child has to die, for him to learn from his mistakes.  Thankfully, this story covers the time he (finally) gets it right, and we can see how well triumph suits him.   An excellent take on a dark subject.

Ooo, I love this story! ^^ The FMA fandom is constantly impressing me with the kind of amazing stuff they come up with.

Yeah, I know what you mean - gen fic in FMA can be absolutely amazing. :D (At least, for the 1st-anime canon it was - I have no idea about the state of the 2nd-anime fandom.)

Speaking of which, someone on here really needs to rec The Sound of Silence (http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=zakai_&keyword=The+Sound+of+Silence&filter=all) by [profile] zakai_. I know a lot of people dislike this kind of thing. I tend to avoid it myself, much to my chagrin. But it struck so deep ... stories like this deserve to be read. Have you read this? It features a lost, desperate, terribly young Ed, and a Roy damaged enough to take advantage of him, and it's the most realistic depiction of child abuse that I've ever seen. It's horrible, but very moving.
