Review:  Smoker and Ace, along with the rest of the Strawhats and Marines, live on the planet Pern.  Ace is the brother of a troublesome young Holder, and Smoker has been the Weyrleader of Grand Line Weyr for years.  Sparks fly when Ace becomes a dragonrider himself.

Anne McCaffrey used to have a pretty stringent no-fanfiction rule about her works.  Nowadays, I don't need to run for cover, because a few years back she relaxed her ban against fiction that uses her settings rather than her characters.  So, there's no problem with Grand Line Weyr, because everyone we meet is a One Piece character, who by and large fit into dragonrider society as if they'd been meant to be there all along.  We don't see much of the Strawhats, as the series is strictly Smoker and Ace centric, but what we get is as in-character as crossovers get.

The Smoker/Ace relationship is another aspect of this crossover that I can really get behind.  Both are readily recognizable as the characters we've grown to love, even in the drastically altered setting.  The two men have some problems... that they willingly talk over and learn to move past by putting forth some effort - how rare!  The dragons' opinions on the relationship are also excellent (of course dragons don't see the point of angst or self-denial).  Finally, and most importantly for many readers, the physical aspect of the couple's lives is, well, hot, with that added touch of draconic compulsion during mating flights to make it sexier.
