Summary:
There is nothing Ramona Quimby hates more than doing what is expected of her. (Ramona Quimby, Age 17)

Review:
I enjoyed everything about this piece. I thought the author did a great job writing a 17 year old Ramona with her fierce independence and nostalgia for life growing up on Klickitat Street. The author manages to weave so many canon memories into the story that I smile each and every time I read it. As it’s been over twenty years since I’ve actually read one of the Ramona books, I’m sure there are plenty of canon shout outs I’m missing, but those I remember are wonderful.

Even if you haven’t read the Ramona series, or it’s been a while, this is a terrific tale of Ramona realizing she’s in love with her best friend, with the boy next door who has been there through everything. Ramona and Howie’s friendship is sweet and wonderfully drawn. Ramona’s realization that she loves Howie and his subsequent wooing of her is heart warming and true to the characters.

This one has been a favorite of mine. As you said, it'd be a terrific story even if I hadn't read the original series, but it's an added bonus to catch the canon bits that I remember decades later. (And it's amazing how much else I recall -- pajamas worn under clothes like a fireman, pushing all the toothpaste out of the tube for the joy of it and her mom making her put it in a baggie, singing the anthem with 'dawnzerly light'...) Great rec!

I've been re-reading the Ramona books with my daughter recently and have wondered if there was any good future fic out there. Thanks for this recommendation. I'm excited to have a look at it! :)

I hope you like it!

I fondly remember reading the Ramona books with my own mom and am sure your daughter will treasure those memories of time spent with you too.
