Review:
Aliens abduct Lex, because they think he's Clark's boyfriend (gee, I wonder where they got that idea). It's up to the Justice League to save him.

As ya'll are probably aware by now, I am a huge, huge fan of future-fic in the Smallville fandom. You've got best friends turned enemies! The Justice League! And Batman (so awesome that he deserves his own exclamation point)! It's a situation that lends itself well to Harelquin plots (as the writers at DC Comics are clearly aware) and this fic is one big old bundle of awesomeness. You have sneaky Lex outwitting the aliens. The aliens themselves, who are unique and quite interesting. And, of course, the Justice League, including some members who don't usually get much face time (Hawkgirl) as well as a few other DC characters brought in to intelligently wrap up the plot. In fact, I think my favorite part of this fic might be Vivian Darkbloom's obvious familiarity with DC canon, which gives the first half of this fic a lot more canonical depth than you usually see in Smallville fics.

The latter half of the fic isn't quite as good, as the romance aspect is skimmed over to get to an extended sex scene (though that might be a bonus for some readers), but the first half of the fic is more than good enough to be recced all on its own. Fans of the Justice League, of clever!Lex, and of invading aliens, this is the fic for you.

Why is there not more (non dark and depressing) future fic out there?

Enjoy:)

Bring it on! I've probably read a lot of it, but anything newish (within the last 2-3 years) and/or anything not on SSA is likely to be new to me:)

Yay! Most of these are completely new to me!

I did try So Cold, but wasn't able to get past the characterization of Hope (and I gave it three tries before I gave up) -- could you give me an idea of general plot? That way I might have a better chance of skipping the Hope sections while still being able to follow the story.

Thanks!

Oh, I definitely recommend Pru's Conflicts of Interest series and iibnf's iHero as well, btw.

Hmmm, Hope is pretty much a smartass and very involved the whole way through, so if you can't go to the "cracky" place with her, you might not make it. This pretty much summarizes it:
"Really, Hope," Lex said condescendingly. "Five self-proclaimed Kryptonians appear on Earth, make a spirited attempt at beating our own resident Kryptonian to death, and try to take over our world. I'm not about to allow competitors, especially those who try to come into the race so late."

They take Superman in to heal him and team up against Zod et al, Hope and Mercy invent innumerable snarky nicknames for Superman, and the girls are fully aware that Clark and Lex just need to hook up, even though it takes the boys much longer to figure it out. It's ... silly.

Fiddlesticks -- I keep hoping that I'll be able to read this fic, but I think this does put the kibosh on it (since I didn't find Hope to be silly so much as deeply, deeply irritating). But I'm glad other folks are enjoying the fic!

rageprufrock's "Visiting Hours" (the sequel to conflicts of interest) has unwarned-for cancer in it. Technically, it's semi-canonical cancer, but it still scarred me for life, so be warned (I think the character gets better, but I didn't stick around to check).
