Review:
While recovering from the events of the movie (and presumably the book, but I've only finished the former), Gimli notices that Legolas is acting strangely snappish. The tension soon come to a head on their trip to Fangorn Forest.

For some reason whenever someone recs a Legolas/Gimli fic, they typically do so with an apologetic manner. I can't see why. Yes, there's a significant height difference there, but tall men marry small women (and vice versa) every day and no one makes a fuss about that. So I'll say it right up front -- I won't be apologizing for reccing Legolas/Gimli fic. I also will not be reccing any stories that play the height difference for laughs.

That said, this is a great, great fic -- the writing is wonderful, there's just enough plot to keep the romance interesting, and both Legolas and Gimli are more layered and complex than in the movies. The characterization of Gimli is especially well done: like the mountains of his birth, he is a patient, slow thinker who, given sufficient time, is actually quite astute. This plays well against Legolas, whose behavior might seem a bit odd for a human, but which makes perfect sense when you consider the fact that he's had 700+ years of living in a relatively small community.

Even if you've never read Legolas/Gimli before, I'd recommend anyone this to anyone who likes romantic first-time fics touched with a hint of angst.
