Introducing Real World Recs

  • Jul. 6th, 2009 at 9:12 AM
For those who can't read fanfic all of the time (hard as that is to imagine:), [livejournal.com profile] slyprentice , [profile] slytherin_gypsy , and myself have banded together to create a comm for real world recs -- books, television, and movies.  I'm sure there are similar comms out there, but I figure that folks who share our taste in fanfic will likely also share our taste in canons (and vice versa, when it comes to reader's recs week).

The comm, appropriately enough, is called [livejournal.com profile] real_world_recs and this week we're posting book recs.  I've just put up my rec for the fabulous Sunshine by Robin McKinley and more recs will be coming every weekday.  Enjoy!

Hey, if you guys need another regular contributor, I was a pretty constant devourer of books until college hit and now I'm trying to get back into the habit. I'd love to have an excuse to visit the library every couple of days again :D

How are you with movies and television?

I'm not up to date with most newer shows/movies, unfortunately; I haven't had cable for a couple of years now. I'm currently making my way through Leverage season 1 and The Big Bang Theory (downloading forums are my friend). However, I definitely have opinions on movies/TV that I've seen. Before I went off to college I watched several shows a week, it was kind of ridiculous.

Fortunately there's no requirement that movies and shows have to be current -- otherwise there's no way we could rec as often as we do:)

Tell you what -- send me a rec for either a book, a movie, or a tv show, using the comm's format (let me know if you need the movie format -- the book format and tv format have already been used on the comm). In the review, be sure to explain (in detail -- we're a lot wordier over at RWR than we are at Epic Recs:) why you are reccing that particular title. My e-mail address is janethunder at gmail dot com.

Thanks!
