Review:
When Sunshine finds a bug in her brain she realizes (with Con's help) that she's going to have to do something about the Goddess of Pain.

Sunshine is, far and away, my favorite book by Robin McKinley. Unfortunately most of the (very limited number of) fics in the fandom are very short and don't really have much meat to them, which is why I was so thrilled to find this fic. Gyre could definitely be longer, but what you do get is fantastic and very satisfying. All of the elements that made the book so great -- baking, Sunshine and Con, magic, and the true otherness of the supernatural -- come together into an intriguing glimpse of what it means that Sunshine is a magic handler and how her earthy, untrained magic might manifest itself in her life. As the icing on the cake, the story is told in a style very reminiscent of the original novel and you even get a recipe for the treat Sunshine works on throughout the story. A lovely tale.
