Review:
Disney's Beauty and the Beast from the Beast's POV.
Fair warning: the first couple of chapters of this fic are just a bit clunky. Keep with it though, the story really picks up.
Most Beaty and the Beast retellings are from the beauty's POV and while that's understandable (since it helps to preserve the sense of mystery in the fairy tale) it is nice to have a chance to see the story from the other side. I'm especially pleased with the way PGR expanded the timeline of the canon -- in the movie Belle and the Beast fall in love in a few days, while in this fic it takes several months. Not only is that more realistic, but it means we get several chapters of entirely new material and these chapters are where the story really shines. PGR also has a great feel for the characters (especially the secondary ones) and a unique vision when it comes to the terms of the curse, all of which combine to give you a wonderfully different and enjoyable take on a fairy tale classic.

BTW, if you're interested in a very unique (and *very* well-done) approach to Disney's version of Beauty and the Beast, check out TrudiRose's stories. Though neither of the ones I've recced on the comm strictly follow the fairy tale, I actually think that makes them much more interesting. My absolute favorite of her fics (and one that I actually think I like more than McKinley's Beauty, though they are different enough that it's hard to compare the two) is A Man of Stature. After Belle and the Beast get together, Gaston is transformed into a dwarf by the enchantress and has the same ten years to find someone who can love him. A beautiful, moving, yet very earthy story.
