Review:
Another supernatural HnG fic (and, really, I think there's only two of them -- they just happen to be among the longer stories in the fandom). This time Hikaru's being haunted by a malevolent ghost (unlike Sai, who was more of the hyperactive, fluffy bunny variety) and, of course, he turns to Akira for help. Touya doesn't immediately believe him (so bonus points for reality), but once he does, he jumps right in with both feet and a grim determination to research till he finds a solution. Except they get a little distracted by their growing attracting for each other (yay!)

The best part of this fic is the plot, which is something most HnG fic is notoriously lacking. The ghost is also very creepy, and Hikaru's growing terror is very believable. All in all, a good spooky story with just a touch of romance.

HnG is...well, it's hard to explain why I like it, because the two main characters really do behave like teenage boys (though, of course, that's what they are). And the entire manga is written around a board game I've never played, with rules I barely understand. Yet, somehow, it's addictive! It's the only manga I've read thus far that I never got tired of reading (normally I have to take a break after a volume or two -- with HnG, I had to force myself to stop reading for sleep and other daily annoyances).

Of course, there's only a couple more long HnG fics out there, both of which I've been waffling on (they're *really* long, and Touya and Shindou act much more adult in both of them, i.e., much less interesting IMO). Good anime/manga fic is just so hard to find...

To be honest I had kind of left the anime fandom. I got tired of knowing what going to happen and how. Especially after I realized that some fanfics were actually better than the original. Its only now that I am trying to get back into anime. Although the last anime show I watched kind of set the standard really high. It was Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=4194 if you can find it, I highly recomend it.

Well off to read your Highlander rec... ^_^

Ooo, new anime. Thanks for the link!

(Also, I know what you mean about getting tired of anime. There is a very clear formula most of the time, so the only way see something new is to try a new genre. Which, to be honest, might be why I liked HnG so much -- it was my first exposure to the 'equate an everyday thing with warfare!' genre, so everything seemed new and exciting:)

Hey if you watch to watch Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo I found the website I downloaded it from but you need bittorrent. Unfortunately it seems they are having some problems so it may not work. -_-

Oh and I forgot to mention is that part of reason why I really like this anime is that not only does it have a good story line but it has some slashy elements.

Have you ever seen Samurai Champloo? It's one of the few anime series that isn't based on a manga (I think they started writing a manga based on the anime, actually), and it features actual adults having actual adult adventures. After a never-ending stream of anime featuring 14-year-old boys, this one was a nice suprise. And there's some really good SC fic out there, too:)

I started to watch Samurai Champloo on Cartoon Network back when I had cable. However I never really got into it so once I lost cable I never tried to find it online. Also, I just can't imagine slashing any of the characters. There is no way it can be done realistically and its really hard to find any good fanfiction on shows that are not as well known.

Oh and I know this has nothing to do with anime but I found a really good Smallville/Sports Night crossover. If you haven’t read it I really recommend it, its really realistic even if it is an odd crossover. The only sad part it is its kind of short and no sequel.

Excellent, SN fic! I've been so frustrated trying to track down all of the SN stories I read and enjoyed that I'm reading anything I can get, even if it's short (so feel free to pass on any you can think of:)

Thanks!
