Summary:
The world is falling into winter. Camelot is falling into war. Arthur will do anything he can to keep his kingdom safe, and he will use whatever weapons are at hand - but, to his horror, his decisions turn out to have severe consequences for Merlin. Naturally, Arthur decides that it is his duty to protect his loyal servant from the shocking truth...
“Let me see if I’ve got this straight,” Lancelot said, beginning to grin. “You want to teach Merlin to use magic – without letting him notice that he’s using magic?”

“He must not find out. If he finds out he has magic, he’ll – why are you laughing? This is no laughing matter, Lancelot!”

Review:
I love this twist on the popular Arthur-finds-out-about-Merlin's-magic trope, wherein Arthur thinks he finds out about Merlin's magic before Merlin does, and feels both responsible for it and protective of Merlin. The story has a similar tone as canon, with zany and silly bits as Arthur tries to teach Merlin to use his magic while trying to keep it hidden from everyone (including Merlin), and some drama with the aftermath of Morgana's betrayal.

A very enjoyable story about Arthur as he learns about things he never knew and finds his own way as a leader. My only regret is that I wished it went on longer; considering it's epic length, that's saying something.
