Combustion by Atlantia (NC-17)

  • Feb. 6th, 2009 at 3:58 PM
Title: Combustion
Fandom: Transformers(Movie)
Pairing: Bumblebee/Sam
Categories: Romance, Drama, Angst
Length: Epic
Warnings: Human/Alien romantic relationship

Author on LJ: n/a
Website: Fanfiction.net page

Author's Summary: With Megatron defeated and the decepticons MIA, life begins to settle down for Sam. Except that his relationship with Mikaela isn't working, and maybe that's because things with Bumblebee are going a little too well.

Review:
While at first glance it's hard to imagine this pairing working in any form other than friendship, Atlantia does a wonderful job of convincing readers that it can (and will) work if only you give it a try and are open to new possibilities. While I can't lie and say that this story is flawless (what story is?), it can be said that it's a unique, memorable, and rather heart wrenching romance between a human and his car an autobot that tests the characters preconceived notions of what is right and what is wrong in the face of unconditional love and any force (human, alien, or fate) that threatens it.

That having been said, I have to say that I was impressed with the approach the author took for Sam and Bumblebee's relationship. There was no shying away from the fact that Bumblebee is a sentient robotic lifeform and Sam is very much a human despite the fact that the Cube has gifted and cursed him (saying more would be giving away the plot). Overall, I'd say this was definitely worth a read, even if the idea of an autobot and a human squicks you, because sometimes some things can transcend even speices barriers.

Combustion

(It needs to be mentioned that Ignition is the much anticipated sequel to 'Combustion', which features more growth to both Sam and Bumblebee's relationship and overall plot, however it hasn't been updated since late '07, so take it or leave it as you choose).

So, I see that this fic is rated NC-17. Bumblebee is like 100X Sam's size. *brain freeze*

*grin* To be fair, the actual sex (i.e. penetration) does not take place until the sequel and is actually pretty neat but then I don't squick easily.

Since I won't actually be reading the sequel (WIPs and I have an arrangement wherein I don't read them and therefore do not rail at the unfairness of life), could you please e-mail me and tell me exactly how this works? I'm really, deeply, morbidly curious.

Believe me, I understand the whole WIPs thing. I started reading the sequel when it was being updated semi-regularly and am still disappointed she hasn't continued. Also, expect an e-mail from me soon :)

Hee, I didn't even get that far. I was just thinking, are Bumblebee's fingers dexterous enough to grab a human penis and not break it ('cuz that would really suck) in the heat of passion. ;p

Hm, I'm trying to think of a way to explain it without spoiling the plot but let's just say spark-bonding plays a key roll in the no-squashing of Sam's fiddly bits thing. ;)

This was the funniest and most fascinating fanfic I have ever read. Thank you for this rec. Like I didn't have enough weird thoughts running through my brain, this one's gonna circulate for quite a while!!! And the 'sex' --- just wow!!!

I agree with you on the fascinating part, it's kind of hard to look away once you've started reading it. I'm glad it worked for you! :)

Thanks for that rec. I've never actually read a Transformers fanfic before, but I really liked this story. Here's hoping it will get finished (because I couldn't stop myself form reading Ignition). ;)

I see this was a rec a few months ago. If anyone is following up on this fic or has not story alerted Ignition, the author has just started updating it again.
