Author's Summary: Mal takes on some new cargo that proves to be almost as troublesome as Simon and River.
Review: Firefly is a (sadly discontinued) sci-fi series by GOD Joss Whedon about the crew of the Firefly-class scavenger ship Serenity, who will do any job, no matter how big or how small, if you pay them the right price. The ship is captained by former rebel soldier Malcolm Reynolds, with his second in command, the femme fatale Zoe, piloted by her adoring husband Wash, and maintained by the perky Kaylee Frye. The doctor Simon Tam tends to the crew, in return for providing shelter for him and his sister, River against the evil Alliance government. The mercenary Jayne Cobb provides backup and back-stabbing in equal amounts, especially since he and the Tams do not get along at all. Companion Inara Serra (a better class of Space Whore, more like a geisha) and Shepherd Book (a Christian preacher, a rarity in the distinctly Asian-influenced Firefly universe) are indefinite passengers on the ship, and often help out when a job goes awry. The 'space cowboys' genre of TV shows, like Firefly, is often a weird mix of darkly depressing subject matter, and sly humor. In these sorts of fandoms, it's often harder to write humor without it becoming OOC than writing dark fic, so it's always nice when you run across a story that is both true to the series, and hilariously cute. The characters are wonderful here, and Jayne is completely adorable in particular. And even though this is technically a Mal/Simon slash fic, it is also a great ensemble piece.
