Title
: Laura Bryannan's Samurai Champloo AU
Fandom: Samurai Champloo
Pairing: Jin/Mugen, Fuu/Jin, Fuu/Mugen, Fuu/Jin/Mugen (with the occasional foray into short-term pairings between one of our heroes and an OC)
Categories: drama
Length: Really freaking epic (as a series)
Warnings: n/a

Review:
Starting mid-series, this collection of stories spans the second half of the anime and continues several years after as Fuu, Jin, and Mugen find each other again and build a life together. The first fic is fluff (and kind of PWP), but from there the stories lead into a long, thoughful exploration of the relationships between Jin, Mugen, and Fuu. Angst, humor, jealousy, cross-dressing, pirates, and redemption ensue.

There's over thirty stories in this AU at the time I write this and rather than trying to pick out one or two to rec, I highly recommend that you read the entire universe (and, since each story follows the previous one, it's more like reading one really, really long story). It's a well-written look at the development of a seme and uke (top and bottom in English) relationship between Jin and Mugen, and as the series progresses Fuu gets drawn in as well. It's easily my favorite fic in the fandom and I love the way the the threesome develops, especially the way everyone's not perfectly happy to share. Threesomes sound great in fiction, but are a tough sell in real life and this series honestly addresses the difficulties such a group would face while still demonstrating how they need all three to make a truly functional, happy relationship. Especially since each person in the group has his or her own group of people attempting to assassinate him/her. An amazing body of work.

Review:
Stuck in that shack by the sea, too injured to move much, Jin and Mugen start having sex and Fuu, still recovering from the traumatic events of the last arc of the series, catches them. Jealous, she leaves and the boys leave with her, splitting up at the crossroads in the last scene of the series.

Two months later, the trio bumps into each other again.

Sometimes you want angst, sometimes you want humor, and sometimes you just want a straightforward first-time story. Distance gives you two first-times for the price of one, and each one is sweet (albeit slightly twisted, because this is SC) in its own way. A lovely, satisfying story.

Mugen finds some porn and shows it to Jin; sex ensues.

What can I say? It's smut. Hot smut. With porn. (Also, this is totally how Jin and Mugen would get together in the anime, if the series had gone that way.) A sure-fire way to brighten your day.

After careful consideration of how often he gets the trio into trouble over women (read: every episode), Mugen decides that he and Jin should have sex. Then he has to convince Jin. It's hilarious (and only gets more so when Fuu finds out).

The best way I can describe this is Champloo written by the sprit of Aaron Sorkin. You've got banter, you've got male friendship that's really something more, you've got a sassy woman. And, as a bonus, you have *two* first times (hot ones!). Whee!
