Author’s Summary: Brendon Urie is lonely, Spencer Smith and Jon Walker are bored, and life in Thornton Hill seems like it's never going to be anything but mundane. Then a mysterious stranger sets up shop on Main Street, and suddenly everything is a little more magical.

Review:
Less than five minutes into this story and I already knew that I was going to rec it. The obvious love and care both the author and the artist had when crafting And Some You Do For is obvious. The artwork by [livejournal.com profile] tardis80 is wonderful in its detail from the index and the opening letters of each section to the actual illustrations. The whole presentation made me feel like I was reading a old fairytale picturebook rather than a fanfiction.

And of course, [livejournal.com profile] softlyforgotten’s writing lives up to the visual promise. The best way for me to sum up the story is that it feels like an old-fashioned fairytale but set in a modern day town. It pays homage to many fairytale traditions – including the particular flavor of magic featured and especially the idea of the land of Faerie – and puts it all together in a way that is just gorgeous and in no way derivative. The author really captures the wonder of magic and her characterization is fantastic. Ryan in particular is an amazing balancing act of endearing, befuddled, and powerful, and his and Brendon’s relationship will just make your heart melt.

The story itself is pre-slash; the slash doesn’t come around until the codes, which I highly recommend as well. (Just as a warning, #4 contains character death, although that technically doesn’t hinder true love forever, FYI).

An all-around masterpiece not to be missed.
