Hikaru and Akira have a fight. Unlike their usual fights, however, this one doesn't blow over immediately.

This is an unusual fic for me -- I rarely read established relationship fic and I don't know that I've ever read a break-up/make-up fic before. I'm very glad that I gave this story a chance, however, because it is eight kinds of amazing. You've got great characterizations (even with the secondary characters), a bit of a mystery (what exactly did they fight about?), and a whole boatload of angst (why can't boys just talk things out like rational people?) and all of those elements blend together into a wonderfully achy exploration of that tenuous time between a fight and the decision to make up or break up.
