Review:
What if Belle found out about the curse when she first moved into the castle? Would she still be able to learn to love the Beast, knowing he has an ulterior motive?
The premise of this story is one that I hadn't considered before, but it really is an intriguing one. If Belle knew that the Beast's only hope was to woo her, could she ever view his actions as anything other than a desperate ploy? Could she look at all of the transformed servants and not feel guilty about the fact that she could save them if she could just learn to love their master? And, speaking of the servants, how desperate might their actions become when they realize that their last chance of a normal life is slipping away?
Dropping Eaves answers all of the above questions and more and the result is a fascinating look at how people (no matter what their shape) interact and how hopes and fears can dictate behavior. Even better, this story is the first one I've ever read to really explore the servants' place in this whole disaster, not only in how they interact with the Beast, but how their lives have been affected by someone else's flaws. A thoughtful, entertaining story.
