Summary:
Bravo platoon as a fraternity.
Review:
I always find it hard to believe that this fic is relatively short because the author packs a lot of story into few words. Like the summary says, the platoon is a fraternity at Cornell. Nate rows crew and Brad plays hockey. After a fluff piece written by a lovestruck freshman ends up on the front page of the college newspaper Nate realizes he's in love with roommate Brad. I love the description of their fraternity lives and antics. I think everyone from the platoon either makes a quick appearance or gets a shout-out, even Trombley. The little details in this fic like the teams they watch playing basketball, the names of the restaurants they order food from, and the description of Nate's clothes as he's running in the rain just add to the realism and flesh out the entire story.
There is a sequel to this fic, Ear to the Ground, which has an awesome Brad voice and deals with his and Nate’s relationship as Brad faces the NHL draft and Nate faces law school post-graduation. I highly recommend reading the second installment as well. It’s even shorter but the glimpse into Brad's mind and his insecurities and contingencies is so spot on and in character that it pretty much deserves it's own rec.
