Summary: Being a halfling in a red state can sometimes cause issues for Frank Iero. He’s the weakest at Jett Clement High School, and probably the entire state (not counting the meal plans). His moods are oddly stable, as much as he tries to be mercurial. And being able to withstand the sun for up to twenty minutes only allows him more time to be forced into chores.

Still, his parents are insane if they think he’s going to be happy about their decision. Frank doesn’t want to move to a Mixed state. How is he supposed to get great friends? How is he supposed to find great food? How is he supposed to have great sex?

Unfortunately for Frank, he doesn’t have a choice. He’s New Jersey bound for the next year, if not longer. He’ll be surrounded by tame vampires who have been nagged out of a sex drive, and humans he’s not allowed to eat. Mixed states suck.

Review: What I like most about this fic is how vivid the world building is. Gala-Apples didn't just make one  group of characters into vampires; or even one high-school or town; she managed to work the whole country into the story.

There are Yellow States(where vampires have no rights); Red States(where humans are basically just meals on wheels); and Orange states like New Jersey(where everybody has to try and get along). Obviously each state has their own unique problems thanks to this set up, but it's very interesting to see how the difference in the states the characters were raised in affects their behavior.

Fair warning though, despite some vampires and halflings being very human; there is also a darkside to the vampires of this verse. So I don't recommend reading this unless your okay with relationships that start out primarily based on blood and sex.
