Review: This series starts out as an AU of the third season and goes from there. The first story (Opening the Box) and the second story (Shadow Boxing) are AU's of the episode Boxed In and Hiatus Parts 1 and 2 respectively. After that the series concentrates on the relationship between Tony and Gibbs. There are bits and pieces of other episodes but nothing as obvious.
Boxed in is one of my favorite NCIS series. KSL manages to keep both Tony and Gibbs in character without being afraid to let them grow beyond the confines of the show. I also love that she's not afraid to add a few well written OC's to flesh out the series. The lack of true secondary characters is one of the main problems I've seen when it comes to writing NCIS fiction and KSL handles the lack admirably.
The one thing I don't particularly like about the series is that its very character centric. There is very little plot and what plot there is, is mostly used to support the parts of the series that are character centric. If your up for a good, long series that concentrates almost completely on Tony and Gibbs and their relationship then you should defenitely give this series a try.
Box Steps Part 1: Opening the Box
Box Steps Part 2: Shadow Boxing
Box Steps Part 3: Gift Box
Box Steps Part 4: Not Quite Seeing the Box
Box Steps Part 5: Fill in the Box
Box Steps Part 6: Chasse
