Review:
I find my love of Conner stories to be quite inexplicable, because usually I hate kid-fic. And yet, Conner is such an awesome character and it *is* a plausible reason for Lex and Clark to reconcile. Besides, Conner stories tend to be funny, which is always a bonus in Smallville fic.

In The Comfort of Adversity, the discovery of Conner has led Clark and Lex to negotiate a very tenuous truce. When Martha dies (pre-story, of natural causes), Clark leaves Conner with Lex and heads off to bust up asteroids. When Clark comes back, he crawls naked into Lex's bed (shocking the hell out of Lex). Of course, it all goes downhill from there.

Kantayra does a terrific job here with everyone's characterizations, but her Lex is especially good. Unlike many versions of Lex out there, this one really does do bad things (death rays come to mind), but he's just so high-brow geeky about it all that it's hard to completely hate him (even if you're Superman). Mix in a little of Conner's mini-Lex deviousness, an awesome Mercy (probably my favorite Mercy characterization ever), and hilarious cameos from Lois, Jimmy, and even the Joker, and you've got a fic guaranteed to go in your reread file.
